New person attribute/Show on person profile

Can someone point to a quick tutorial or a place in the documentation that shows me how to create a new person attribute and how to expose the form element on the person page?

I'm able to create the person attribute, I'm just not having luck exposing the form field in an existing or by creating a new block.  I'm assuming I've overlooked something simple.  =)  I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

    Got it worked out. I wasn't connecting all the dots and at some point today it just 'clicked'.  Hah.  Was also able to get some conditional badge icons based on the values of these new attributes.
