How to keep lists (groups) of THINGS? (E.g. assets or hazards...)

I understand the PEOPLE table can keep details of people and businesses.

Can it also be used to record THINGS?

Then the Groups functionality could be used to keep track of groups of those THINGS and their attributes.

For example: Assets, and some details (group member attributes) of those assets.

or Hazards, and the location, hazard management plan, actions taken, current status, assigned person ...

or Purchase Request Items, Jobs, Projects, Missions Trips and so on...

Or is there another way of doing this?

The key requirements is a list of things, and a set of attributes linked to those things, that can be grouped into groups and sub-groups.

    Hi Ken,

I can see the need for referencing objects in addition to people.  We keep track of scrip using a combination of workflows to input the data and SQL to output a list of the information.

As far as adding new record types into the database other than people or businesses I'd have to say (in my humble opinion) that that may not be a part of the core of what Rock aims to do.  Rock is a Relationship Management System and is focused on people almost exclusively.  That's why the documentation specifically calls out their plans not to create a full suite of financial tools outside of giving.  That doesn't mean this won't change in the future and I'd recommend submitting the idea as a feature.  There's also the Rock Store that could include addons which do exactly this.

In the mean time, I'd be glad to share the workflows or code we use if you're interested.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Jeremy. Can I take you up on your offer, please? I'm trying to work out how to use pages, workflows and groups to enter, create and update group details.
